My Journey with Crocheting

Passion for Crafting

From a young age, I have always had a passion for crafting and creating things. My creative pursuits have ranged from refurbishing furniture, to making wedding cakes, and most recently, to crocheting.

How I Started Crocheting

My journey into crocheting began thanks to my daughter, who saw a crocheted bee at a market and really wanted one. I told her I could buy a kit online and make the same bee for a fraction of the price. After returning home, I ordered a kit from Amazon, excited to make the plushie myself. However, when the kit arrived and I opened it, I quickly realized I could not read the pattern—terms like "2sc" or "2dc" were unfamiliar to me. Additionally, I did not know how to properly hold the crochet hook or yarn. Determined to save $10, I began watching YouTube videos and experimenting on my own.

Learning the Basics

I soon discovered that starting with a bee was far beyond my current abilities. So, I focused on learning how to do a single crochet stitch (sc) and practised by stitching a simple line. I continued working back and forth until I managed to create a blanket. Although the blanket turned out a bit wonky, I then learned about stitch counters and incorporated them into my work.

Growing My Skills

From there, I kept experimenting and gradually grew my confidence and skill set. I mostly make things for fun or to gift to family and friends. Crocheting has become my longest-running hobby, and I love it because there is so much you can create and always room for advancement.
